The following legal resources are available to Central Coast community members. This list includes non-profit agencies, which provide legal, mediative, and referral services at low or no cost. This list also includes several self-help internet sites. This list is not comprehensive.

Services: Assist in divorce, legal separation, nullity, paternity, restraining orders, guardianship and name change, gender change, step-parent adoption (consent by
all parents) and expungement cases. Help obtain and modify child support, custody and visitation orders.
FAMILY COURT SERVICES

Services: Mediate child custody issues between parties in family law cases to reach a parenting plan agreement. Separate appointments are available if there is domestic violence.
Scheduling Hours: Mon – Thurs 9am – 3pm
Consultation Hours: Tues 4:30 – 6:30 pm
Services: When appropriate, San Luis Obispo College of Law interns, under the guidance of a supervising attorney, may provide legal information and advice at no charge to individuals who are unable to afford an attorney. Program staff also provides referrals to legal assistance programs in SLO County. The telephone consultations are by appointment only.
LAWYER REFERRAL AND INFORMATION SERVICE (LRIS)
Phone Hours: Mon – Thurs 9am – 1pm
Services: When appropriate, provide a referral to an LRIS attorney in any of the following areas of law:
- Criminal Defense
- Estate Planning
- Family Law (including Limited Scope)
- General Civil Litigation
- Personal Injury
- Real Propert
Assist with other resources including referrals to local county agencies when applicable.
Cost: $50.00 LRIS administrative fee if referred to an attorney. Attorney’s regular fee will apply following the initial appointment.

Services: Serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Assistance with obtaining temporary restraining orders, counseling and shelter services, advocacy and accompaniment. All services are confidential and available in Spanish.
Hours: Mon – Fri 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Services: The legal program assists survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking in obtaining restraining orders, divorces, orders regarding support, custody, visitation and more. For emergency shelter, please call (805) 781-6400.

Services: Offer mediation and conflict-coaching services to resolve small claims and community, landlord/tenant, and neighbor issues, with specialized programs for family conflict including and older adult/caregiver issues and free Parent Teen Mediation services.

Services: The Clinic represents low-income taxpayers involved in controversies with the Internal Revenue Service and provides education and outreach services on the rights and responsibilities of taxpayers. Eligible clients may receive free legal services such as representation in Tax Court cases, negotiating payment and settlement options with the IRS, help with audits, filing of identity theft affidavits, and prevention of levies. Services are confidential and in English and Spanish.

CALIFORNIA RURAL LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Tenants’ Rights Workshop: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Cost: Free for low-income individuals
Services: Assist in civil law cases, including housing, labor and employment, education and civil rights. Do not assist with family law, criminal law or debt collection.
